Basic Course in Radio Journalism, Basel - English
This basic course in radio journalism offers a comprehensive introduction to the world of radio broadcasting. Participants will learn the various skills necessary to create a professional radio broadcast. These include: digital editing, studio equipment, the media and radio landscape in Switzerland, feedback, editorial basics, finding topics, research, interview techniques, radio report design, broadcast design, writing for speaking, and presenting. The basic course in radio journalism is aimed at anyone interested in developing their skills in radio journalism, i.e. aspiring journalists, students, communications professionals or people already working in radio who would like to expand their knowledge. Previous experience in radio journalism is not required. Basic computer skills and an interest in journalism or radio are an advantage.
Who is the course for
This class was designed as a basic training for community radio volunteers in German-speaking Switzerland. For the majority of the UNIKOM radio stations, this class is compulsory for the broadcasting staff. The basic course in radio journalism is suitable for anyone interested in radio over the age of 16; for younger people, we offer special junior courses. No previous knowledge or school are required. This course is taught in English.
Objective
Under expert guidance, participants gain their first experience writing in radio-specific language. They can apply their basic theoretical knowledge of interview techniques to practical interviews. They know how to plan and create a radio program. The participants practice receiving and giving feedback. They know how and where they can find out about procedures, rules, and quality assurance measures at their radio station (in particular, this applies to broadcasters at UNIKOM radio stations).
